The Institute for Memory and Heritage is a research-driven organization based in Nazareth. It is single-mindedly focused on theoretical as well as practical research in seeking to document the collective memory, heritage, and history of the Palestinian people. At the Institute we focus on creating and crystallizing the collective Palestinian memory and the historical narrative, covering all aspects of life and interests. Additionally, we conduct practical/field research on the life of Palestinians regardless of their current place of residence, with special attention to the Palestinian minority in Israel. We are also committed to fully documenting and archiving all aspects of Palestinian heritage, be it written or oral. One of the most important projects undertaken by the institute is capturing and archiving the oral history of Palestinians (voice and video). Within the framework of this project (collating and archiving oral histories) we aim to identify and interview individuals who have in their possession important documents that confirm the details of the Palestinian narrative. We will also be recruiting professional researchers (who will be trained and qualified in gathering oral history) to conduct these interviews. Add to that the establishment of a research unit that will be charged with establishing a historical archival system that will house all documents, publications, and photographs and other heritage related materials.
